Charles Alver
Projects: Pancreatic Slice on a Chip Charlie graduated from Harvard University with a S.B. in Engineering Sciences – Bioengineering in 2017. He is currently a part of the University of Miami Medical Scientist Training Program doing his graduate studies in Biomedical Engineering. After completing his first two years of medical school he has joined us where is project aims to create a microphysiological organ on a chip enabling long term culture and real-time non-invasive monitoring of pancreatic slices. |
Emma Drabbe
Project: Retinal Organoids Emma joined the lab in Fall 2020 and is from the Netherlands. She graduated with a B.S. and M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology. Her project is about the development of a bioreactor to culture retinal organoids in a controlled microenvironment, which is co-mentored by Dr. Daniel Pelaez. |
Bhumi Suthar
Project: Engineering a Human Endothelium Platform for Disease Modeling Bhumi joined the lab in 2021 after receiving a BSc. and MSc. in Microbiology. Her project aims to create a platform which encompasses endothelium derived from iPSC cells of patients with T1D and immune cells sourced from donor blood provided from our collaborators at the University of Florida (Stabler lab and Clayton lab). |
Emily Hutchison
Project: Chronic Viral Hepatitis C on a Chip Emily graduated from the University of Miami in December of 2020 with a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering. Since joining the lab in Fall 2022, she is currently working on a microfluidic system to model chronic viral hepatitis C (HCV) infection and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). She is working in conjuction with Dr. Emmanuel Thomas of the Thomas lab. |
Mariana Viso
Project: Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma on a Chip Mariana joined the lab in Fall 2022 after graduating with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Florida. Her project aims to create a microfluidic system that mimics pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) progression and interactions with surrounding cells in collaboration with Dr. Jashodeep Datta. |
David Oliver
David graduated from the University of Miami in 2022 with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering. He joined the lab in Spring 2022 and is the primary contact for designing, building, and testing the microfluidic chips for the lab's projects and collaborations. He additionally assists with the pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) on a chip project. |
Emma Warrner
Emma is currently an undergraduate student at the University of Miami on track to graduate in Fall 2023 with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering. Since joining the lab in Fall 2022 she primarily assists with the Pancreatic Slice on a Chip project as well as her senior design project developing a microfluidic chip capable of producing a linear concentration gradient. |
